In the wake of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao deciding to set up a huge 125-feet statue of Constitution architect B R Ambedkar in Hyderabad to mark the latter's 125th birth anniversary, a cabinet sub-committee today held a high-level meeting.
The committee is searching for a suitable place for the statue to be installed. After the sub-committee's recommendation, KCR will take a final decision on the place to set up the statue.
The Chief Minister is to lay the foundation stone for the statue on April 14, and inaugurate it on the same day next year.
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari heading the sub-committee meeting, which was attended by other members comprising Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali, ministers G Jagadish Reddy and Chandu Lal, Sanskritika Sarathi Chairman Rasamayi Balakishan, MP Dr B Narsaiah Goud, GHMC Mayor Bontu Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, Hyderabad Collector Rahul Bojja and other officials.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided to hold another meeting to take a final call on the location and come up with an action plan. Later the members made a tour to a few places, including Borabanda wherein a Dalit Study Circle is also to be set up by the government.
The meeting also decided to hand over to the Dalit Development Society the job of making arrangements for the construction of an Ambedkar Tower.
The government is also expected to distribute three acres of land to deserving Dalits on April 14.
