Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today attributed the statehood for Telangana to the foresight of Babasaheb Ambedkar, who had written the country's Constitution to enable and favour the formation of smaller States in the country.
The Chief Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a 125-feet-tall Ambedkar statue at the Hill Rock area on the NTR Gardens premises. A sky-high bronze statue of the Constitional architect, which could be the first of its kind in the world, will come up here next year on the same day.
KCR also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Center for Dalit Studies at Borabanda at a cost of Rs 10 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Telangana government was indebted to Ambedkar for his prudence in writing the Constitution in a manner that would avert skirmishes among leaders of the States where the formation of new States was concerned. KCR showered praises on the leader saying that he was a true son of the soil and a great visionary who strove his entire life for the cause of the dalits, STs, backward classes, minorities and poor, besides fighting against oppression.
"Telangana has been liberated due to Ambedkar's efforts and the Constitution he wrote. The TRS government will follow Ambedkar's ideals to uplift these classes, who should benefit from development," KCR averred.
He also announced the construction of a 15-storeyed Ambedkar Towers on the eastern side of Hussain Sagar, intended for studies on Ambedkar and his works.
"The TRS government is committed to the welfare of the weaker sections, and is constructing 2.6 lakh double bedroom houses for them. We will also take up a land procurement program to continue to offer three acres to each dalit family," KCR added.
