Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao today accused the erstwhile Congress governments of constructing box-sized houses under the Indiramma housing scheme and using it just to loot money, and reiterated that the KCR government offered comfortable two-bedroom houses free to the poor to enable them lead respectful lives.
He was speaking after launching 1,152 units of 2 BHK houses at Jiyaguda and neighbouring places along with ministers Mahmood Ali and T Srinivas Yadav, Mayor B Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and others.
840 houses in Jiyaguda, 192 in Godeke Kabar and 120 in Kattelmandi constructed at a cost of Rs 95.58 crore were inaugurated.
KTR asked the poor to abstain from giving even a single paisa to anyone to get houses.
He also said that the Congress had duped the people by taking money 7 years ago for 550 Indiramma houses in Parkal mandal which were not actually built. And after cheating the poor in such ways, the Congress leaders were now making false charges on the TRS government's 2 BHK units, he said.
He also derided the Congress leaders for their charges that the KCR government had not built 1 lakh houses, and said that he would give them details of all the constructions.
"We will complete 2.75 lakh quality houses for the poor. The present cost of each house is Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, and the units will be disbursed with high quality even if may be late," he promised.
"As much as Rs 18,000 crore is being spent for the housing scheme in the state, which is unprecedented in the entire country, and the value of the houses is around Rs 70,000 crore in the market," KTR added.
