Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao today inaugurated 288 units of 2BHK houses built as part of the state government's pro-poor housing scheme at Pilligudisela Basthi at Malakpet, near Chanchalguda Jail.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is developing both the Old City and the rest of Hyderabad with the same zeal and commitment. Our government has spent Rs 24.91 crore to construct these houses which are all equipped with modern facilities. We have been striving to fulfil our promise of providing free housing and better public amenities and infrastructure like roads and flyovers," he said.
"Our government has been prioritising the 2BHK project as we want to provide permanent shelter to the poor, free of cost. Pilligudisela Basthi area which faced water shortage and drainage issues among other basic amenity problems has now got all the infrastructure that will resolve these old matters. Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala was the one who had brought the issue to our notice, and had urged the CM to construct two bedroom houses here, to expand roads, and provide drinking water and drainage facilities. We are providing all these things in a phased manner and are addressing related issues as well," the minister added.
Talking about the units, he stated, "Beneficiaries in the basthi have now gotten housing units with modern facilities. The related documents and keys have been given to the new homeowners as well. I urge them to maintain the houses and to protect the environment. They will be able to live their lives with self-respect here. Each house has been built with quality materials at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 60 lakhs. 19 shops too have been constructed to strengthen business here."
KTR then spoke about the appeal made by local leaders for the shifting of Chanchalguda Jail to another location so that the vacated space could be used to set up an IT company or educational institution, and assured the public that the appeal would be brought to the notice of the CM who would take a decision on the matter.
At the program, the minister also revealed that the state government would distribute another 60,000 2BHK units at various places, including Jangammet, Bandlaguda, and Farunagar, very soon.
