Staff, Students Condemn Interference In MANUU

The staff and students staged an impromptu rally in response to the "dharna" by people who claimed to be the members of the Minority Morcha of the BJP.

In a rare show of solidarity, the staff and students of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University on Wednesday condemned the "malicious" campaign being run against the university and its authorities, and said that they would resist "outside" interference in the affairs of MANUU.

Addressing a huge gathering of staff and students, Dr. Yousuf Khan, President of the MANUU Teachers Association, said that all decisions taken by the administration were transparent.

"We are responsible members of the society. If there had been any irregularities as claimed by the vested interests, we would have been the first to raise our voices," Dr. Khan said.

The staff and students staged an impromptu rally today in response to the "dharna" by people who claimed to be the members of the Minority Morcha of the BJP.

"Some people have been trying to sabotage the progress made by the university since its inception in 1998. The progress of the university is evident from the fact that thousands of Urdu-speaking students have been able to get jobs after completing education in a variety of fields from MANUU," said Dr Mohammed Fariyad, former President of MANUUTA and Associate Professor of Mass Communication.

He went on to add that the vested interest groups had been misinforming the media about the university, and using the umbrella of various political outfits as and when it suited them.

In the resolution passed at the rally, the representatives of the participants said that they had decided to "safeguard the interests of our university against the wicked designs of individuals within or outside MANUU."

The resolution said that the rally condemned outside interference in the internal affairs of the university, and the un-parliamentary language being used in a section of the media against the university authorities.

Nooruzoha, President of the Students Union, said that by interfering in the affairs of the university, "the destructive elements were playing with fire."

He said that the "conspirators against MANUU" would be fought tooth and nail across the country.

Md. Jamaluddin Khan, President of the Officers Association, said that the stakeholders in the university would not tolerate the harming of the reputation of the university.

"The progress made by the university is the result of the hard work put in sincerely by the entire MANUU community in the last 17 years. It is because of the unstinted support of the government that the university has registered phenomenal progress," he said.

Sheikh Naved, President of the Employee Welfare Association, said that the university was playing an important role in the development of the country. There should not be any interference in institutions like MANUU, he added.

Wajihus Shams, General Secretary of the Non-Teaching Employees Association, described MANUU as an excellent centre of learning where there was no room for politics. (INN)
