Suryapet district special police teams top in collecting mamools. And that is not an allegation by the citizens but by Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy himself.
According to the DGP, a police committee in its report revealed that some 40 police personnel from Suryapet district topped the list comprising 391 policemen who, instead of curbing crime and criminal activities, were passing time by collecting mamools from the people.
Bhadradri stood in the second place with 35 members, and Karimnagar stood third with 34. They were followed by Nizamabad (29), Vikarabad (27), Sangareddy (25) and Rachakonda (24).
Curiously, there are no corrupt policemen in Bhoopalapalli, Jangaon, Jagtial and Peddapalli districts.
The DGP issued orders to the various SPs and Police Commissioners to send the 391 police personnel, who are working in special teams across the state, to their parent departments immediately, and to scrap the special teams immediately.
For the uninitiated, after assuming office, Mahender Reddy had ordered an inquiry into the alleged corrupt practices of Special Police teams across the state. He directed the inquiry committee to find out whether the allegations being levelled against the special teams were correct or not through field studies.
The report confirmed that the special team personnel were busy in collecting bribes by keeping their legitimate work - of working in coordination with the SP, DSP, ACP, DCP and Commissioners to control crime - aside. Their actual job was to arrest criminals, and keep vigil on anti-social elements who try to disturb the law and order and inform the same to the higher officials, but they focused more on lining their own pockets.
Incidentally, the DGP revealed the names of only corrupt police constables, and not those of the SIs, CIs and other higher officials.
