The Telangana government today constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj to investigate the POCSO case involving Union Minister Bandi Sanjay's son Bandi Bhagirath.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was briefed on the case registered against Bhagirath at the Pet Basheerabad police station, by DGP C V Anand. The CM expressed concern over the lack of action since the complaint was lodged on May 8. Responding to that, the DGP informed him that the police force had been fully engaged in security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Hyderabad.
In response, Reddy instructed the DGP to promptly initiate an inquiry into the case, and directed him to form specialised teams to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Following the directive, the SIT was constituted, with Rithiraj entrusted with probing the case.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, along with her parents, told the police that Bhagirath had behaved inappropriately towards her during a New Year's Eve party at a farmhouse in Moinabad. She also alleged that he had also displayed inappropriate behaviour on other occasions.
Meanwhile, a separate case has been registered against the victim and her parents at a police station in Karimnagar, based on a complaint filed by Bhagirath alleging that the victim's family had demanded Rs 5 crore from him and attempted to blackmail him.
