Several YSR Congress Party MLAs were taken into custody by the police when they staged a dharna in front of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's office at the state Secretariat, demanding the convening of a special Assembly session.
Earlier, they had called on the CM requesting him to convene an Assembly session before the draft bill or a resolution on Telangana was tabled in the State Legislative Assembly. They demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly pass a resolution opposing the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
However, the CM reportedly rejected their demand stating that the Telangana resolution could be defeated in the Assembly, and that there was no need for a special session to be convened.
Not happy with the CM's reply, the MLAs - B Shobha Nagireddy, Karunakar Reddy, Srikanth Reddy and others - staged a protest opposite the C-Block of the Secretariat. They police immediately took them into custody and shifted them to the Saifabad Police Station.
The YSRCP MLAs originally planned to beseige the CM's camp office at Begumpet. However, when Kiran Kumar Reddy left for Secretariat, they changed the plan and sought his appointment.
They then protested after the meeting with the CM proved futile. (INN)
