Protesting the TDP government's decision to shift the date of the Andhra Pradesh formation day to June 2, the YSR Congress Party said that the Party would observe November 1 as the Formation Day to honour the sentiments of the Telugu people.
"The State Reorganisation Bill has been categorical that Telangana is being carved out of Andhra Pradesh State, and there is no logic behind the State Formation Day being shifted. Telangana was born on June 2, not Andhra Pradesh. Being a strong votary of an integrated State, the YSR Congress Party feels that November 1 should be observed as the State Formation Day," party senior leader Dr M V Mysoora Reddy told reporters on Friday.
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh continued to observe November 1 as the State Formation Day even though Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh celebrated their Formation Days on their respective days of coming into being as separate States, he mentioned.
"It is logical for Telangana to observe June 2 as its Formation Day, as it was the newly formed 29th State, but Andhra Pradesh has been in existence and there is no need to change its Formation Day. To protest the State's decision and to safeguard the interests and sentiments of the people of Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress will observe November 1 as the State Formation Day," he said. (INN)
