The YSR Congress Party called for a total bandh in Andhra Pradesh on August 2 to protest the Centre's refusal to grant Special Status to the State, going against what was promised on the floor of the Parliament by then PM Manmohan Singh in 2014.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy called upon the various trade unions, political parties, employees and organizations to come forward and make the agitation a success.
He also criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for his "total failure" in achieving Special Status for the State, and charged him with duping the people of the State.
Expressing dismay over the way the discussion on Special Status for Andhra Pradesh in Rajya Sabha went over the past two days, Jagan castigated the TDP for failing to pressurize the NDA government on the issue.
He further accused the TDP of colluding with the BJP and harming the interests of the people.
The YSRCP leader also played a recording of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Tirupati speech during the 2014 elections in which he promised Special Status to Andhra Pradesh, and slammed him for not fulfilling the same.
The YSRCP chief also alleged that Naidu had amassed Rs 1.5 lakh crores illegally through corrupt practices. He was also involved in the "note-for-vote" scam, Jagan said.
He also referred a recent report by National Council for Applied Economics and Research, which ranked AP as the most corrupt State in the country.
