YSR Congress Party chief and Leader Of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu after the latter admitted failure to get Special Status to the residual State.
Speaking to media at the Assembly hall, Reddy lambasted Naidu for his "double speak" on the issue of the grant of Special Status to AP.
"On one hand, the CM says that he is striving for the accordance of Special Status to the State, and on the other expresses happiness over the Centre's announcement of a pittance in the form of a 'special package' to the State," he said, adding that only the accordance of Special Status could compensate for the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation.
The Party chief called for a State-wide bandh on Saturday to protest against the Centre's denial of Special Status, and appealed to the people of the State to participate in the bandh to show their dissent on the issue.
"AP lost a well-developed capital to the bifurcation and now has to build one right from scratch. We also need to build an industrial base in the new capital. Only attractive packages and tax benefits can attract new industries to the State. We will fight until AP gets Special Status. We will not budge," he declared.
