The Andhra Pradesh Congress has promised to extend unequivocal support for the AP bandh proposed by the YSR Congress Party on August 2 demanding Special Status for Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy alleged that due to a tacit alliance between the TDP and BJP, the bifurcated State could not obtain Special Status.
"The TDP MPs are not serious about obtaining Special Status for the State as they are only interested in increasing their representation in the Assembly," he alleged.
In Rajahmundry, former MP and senior Congress leader Undavalli Arun Kumar alleged that the BJP had deceived the people of Andhra Pradesh by making false promises.
"We are demanding Special Status to recover from the bifurcation. The State will get additional benefits with the status. The BJP should clarify on why it is reneging on its election promise," Undavalli said.
Undavalli also asked Chandrababu Naidu why he did not take up the issue seriously with the NDA government.
Alleging also that attempts were being made to stall the Polavaram project, he said, "If this project is completed, we can utilize 2,000 TMC of water. We can also release a separate channel to Odisha so that they, too, can tackle their water crisis."
