Telangana and the Philippines today agreed to boost agricultural trade between themselves.
State Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy met Philippines Agriculture Minister Francisco P Tiu Laurel Jr in New Delhi to discuss expanding paddy trade.
The Philippines minister said that the rice from Telangana was of exceptional quality, and specifically spoke of the Sona (RNR 15048) variety. He expressed strong interest in increasing imports to meet his country's projected demand of around 2 million metric tonnes next year. He also indicated interest in maize imports.
Reddy pledged full support to strengthening trade ties and invited the Philippines minister to visit Telangana later this year, to which Laurel Jr agreed. The Philippines side also expressed interest in hosting the Telangana delegation in their country soon, and both parties affirmed their commitment to deepening trade and agricultural cooperation.
