The police, on Wednesday, arrested Telugu Desam Party Ratpadu MLA Paritala Sunitha for sitting in fast-unto-death at Ambedkar Statue in Anantapur district, demanding the re-opening of the murder case of her husband, former Penugonda MLA Paritala Ravindra.
She has been alleging that her husband Paritala Ravindra, who was killed in 2005, was murdered at the behest of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy.
However, the police took Sunitha into custody, on the grounds that she did not take prior permission to stage the hunger strike, and that the Election Code of Conduct was in force in the district.
Sunitha told reporters that she has substantial evidence to prove her charges that YSR and Jagan were involved in her husband's murder. She demanded that the government re-open the case and order a fresh probe into the death.
Meanwhile TDP activists staged a dharna on the road at the TDP office, in protest against Sunitha's arrest. They raised slogans against the police and the government.
They said that the government was afraid of ordering probe into Paritala Ravi's murder, fearing defeat in the ensuing by-elections. (INN)
