Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been taken into preventive custody after Warangal turned ballistic over his proposed 6-day Odarpu yatra in Telangana that was set to begin on Friday. He was released later.
Jagan had even defied the Congress high command for the yatra. He boarded the Inter City Express at Secunderabad this morning, in order to reach Mahabubabad and begin the tour there. The train got delayed by hours, with a bomb threat and disruption of railway lines playing havoc. The train was stopped at Wanganpalli, where Jagan was taken into preventive custody and escorted back to Hyderabad.
The decision to stop the Odarpu yatra was taken after the CM met home minister Sabita Indra Reddy and some police officers over the law and order situation. The CM was earlier known to have asserted that Jagan didn't need any permission to conduct the tour, even though the AP in-charge of the Congress, Veerappa Moily, said on Thursday that the high command does not approve of the yatra.
Mahabubabad, meanwhile has been tense since Thursday. A bomb was found in one of the town's markets, with a note signed by the "Telangana Liberation Army". Today, Friday, Mahabubabad saw one person reprtedly being killed when the securitymen of Konda Surekha - a Jagan supporter - fired at a protesting pro-Telangana group.
This lap of Jagan's Odarpu tour is to console 77 families in Telangana, 72 of them in Warangal, who had lost their loves out of grief over YSR's death last year.
