Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao today unveiled a Deeksha Divas pylon, constructed to commemorate Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's fast-unto-death during the Telangana agitation, on the premises of the Warangal Municipal Corporation.
The 12-foot-tall pylon was reportedly constructed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister lauded the CM for his commitment to the Telangana movement.
"Chief Minister KCR was truly committed to the movement. He even launched an eleven-day fast-unto-death on November 29, 2009, to achieve its goals, without any concern for his own health. KCR only withdrew his fast after the then-Union Home Minister P Chidambaram released a statement regarding Telangana. The UPA regime then announced that it would begin the preparations for the creation of the state on December 9. Our state gained statehood due to the CM's Deeksha," he said.
The minister also lashed out at former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, and alleged that he had tried, in vain, to persuade the latter to issue a statement in favour of granting Telangana statehood.
Government Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Warangal Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao and Deeksha Divas Pylon Committee convener Jorika Ramesh were among those present at the unveiling ceremony.
