The Telangana State Women's Commission on Wednesday sought a report from the Superintendent of Police, Nalgonda, on the case of a 21-year-old girl student, who was stabbed multiple times by a youth, who had been harassing her for months in the name of love.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the case, the Commission ordered the SP to investigate it and submit a detailed report on it.
Later, the Chairperson of the Commission Vakiti Sunitha Laxma Reddy said that there was a need for women to come out boldly when they faced any sort of harassment, and that the Telangana government had come up with various measures to curb violence against women by providing them the maximum possible protection and easy access to crime-reporting mechanisms, including the local police stations, the She Teams, the women's helpline number 181 or the Telangana State Women's Commission WhatsApp helpline number 9490555533.
The Commission would seek tough punishment for the culprits, and would stand by the victim's family, said Reddy.
