A woman constable named Kongara Nagamani was murdered this morning in the Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Ranga Reddy district.
The incident occurred on the road from Rayapolu to Endlaguda.
According to CI Satyanarayana, "Nagamani worked at the Hayatnagar police station. She was previously married but divorced her husband ten months ago. A month ago, she remarried a man of a different caste. Nagamani and Srikanth had a love marriage on November 1 at Yadagirigutta. They were from Rayapolu and had been living in Hayatnagar since their marriage. The couple had gone to their native village for the holiday on Sunday. While on her way to work this morning, Nagamani was chased, hit by a car, attacked with a hunting sickle and killed by her brother, who was enraged by her love marriage."
The police are looking out for her brother Ramesh.
In response to Nagamani's murder, her husband Srikanth told the media, "Nagamani and I had been in love for the past eight years. I helped her prepare to become a constable, and in 2021 she secured the job. We married in Yadagirigutta last month. We had previously filed a complaint with the police stating that our lives were under threat. Her family members had threatened to kill her. Nagamani was finally killed by her brother today. She had called me before leaving Rayapolu and while I was speaking with her I heard a loud sound and she told me worriedly that her younger brother was attacking her. I sent my own brother there, but by the time he reached, she was already dead."
Srikanth's family members staged a protest at the Ibrahimpatnam police station over Nagamani's murder.
