Inaugurating a KGBV conference, Srihari said he had already spoken to Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and sought the regularization of the services of teachers and upgradation of the schools to junior colleges, and the extension of financial assistance to do the same.
Javadekar responded to the appeals and said that the the issues would be resolved soon, the Minister said. Kadiam also said that Javadekar gave his approval for running the KGBVs under Narendra Modi's "Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao" scheme.
Srihari said that female teachers working for the KGBVs should treat the girl students on par with their daughters so that they, too, could excel in their endeavours. The Deputy Chief Minister urged teachers to stop going to unions and political parties for resolving issues, as he had taken up their issues with the Centre and would sort them out soon.
He pointed out that there were 73,000 students studying in 391 KGBVs which were functioning under the Centre's purview, and the State government was spending Rs. 212 crores a year for their development. Under Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's directive, the State government was spending Rs. 4.7 crores to provide blankets to the hostel students besides providing all facilities like RO plants, power, running water, toilets, compound wall and clean premises. Announcing other reliefs, he announced that that school timings for KGBVs had been changed to 9 am instead of 8 am.
