Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy on Thursday urged Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to withdraw the cases booked against pro-Telangana activists during the rail roko agitations as part of the separate statehood movement.
In a letter written to the Railways Minister, Reddy said that people of Telangana had fought for over 60 years for a separate state of Telangana, and the same had come true only a few days ago.
"The people of Telangana participated in many agitations, strikes etc. for achieving their own state. During this 60-year-long struggle, many people including students, farmers and others from different walks of life lost their valuable properties and sacrificed their lives, too. As part of this struggle, people participated in activities like rail rokos and rasta rokos, and at one stage the whole region came to a stand-still (at the time of the sakala janula samme), in which BJP had also played an active role. Finally the dream became a reality, and the people of Telangana rejoiced to the core and celebrations touched the pinnacle," he said.
"Now the people of Telangana are enjoying freedom and are under the rule of their own representatives and rulers of their choice. At this happiest of moments, a deplorable thing is that those who fought for the separate statehood and participated in various agitations and struggles are facing cases against them, which are haunting them and causing them loss of peace of mind even after achieving their lifetime dream of a separate State," Reddy said, while requesting the minister to withdraw the cases.
