With IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao extending him an invitation, noted comedian Munawar Faruqui has agreed to conduct a show in Hyderabad, according to reports.
The comedian had to recently cancel his show "Dongri To Nowhere" in Bengaluru following protests by some right-wing activists. That makes KTR's invitation to him politically significant.
The show will be conducted in Hyderabad on January 9 next year.
KTR said that the TRS government did not oppose shows of people like Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra just because it was not aligned with them politically.
"Hyderabad is truly cosmopolitan, and stand-up comedians have open invitations. We welcome them here to perform their shows," the minister said.
Faruqui said that the venue in Hyderabad was yet to be announced, and that the ticket price would be Rs 799.
People who seek to witness the comedy show, named "Dhandho", can get tickets on the booking platform BookMyShow.
Faruqui has seen many of his shows cancelled this year in many major cities after Hindutva activists threatened organizers claiming he insulted Hindu deities. He was even imprisoned in January, and was given bail by the Supreme Court in February.
