Former Indian badminton champion Pullela Gopichand, who is now the coach of champion P V Sindhu, asserted that the latter had played brilliantly in the world championship finals.
Gopichand and Sindhu arrived in the city today from the BWF World Championships that happened at Glasgow, and were accorded a warm welcome by supporters and sports lovers at the Shamshabad airport. Speaking to the media, Gopichand said Sindhu would definitely win a gold in the future.
"We had hopes that Sindhu would bag the gold medal. Though she could not get it, she showed her excellence at the sport, and this was one of her best matches," he said.
Sindhu, speaking on the occasion, expressed happiness over winning the silver in the world championships, but added that she was disappointed at not getting the gold. Every point was important in the final match, and she played keeping that in mind, Sindhu said.
She said that she had won three world championship medals so far, and though she failed to bag the gold again, she had received acclaim from the people for her performance. She expressed hope that one day she would win the gold, and that that was her aim now.
She thanked the central and state governments for extending cooperation and support for women sportspersons.
