A 1200mm diameter pipeline, that runs from the Krishna river to the Prashasan Nagar reservoir, burst on Friday. The mishap lead to the inundation of residential areas in Lakshminagar Colony.
The overflowing water from the burst pipeline also affected the vehicular traffic movement on the Attapur ring road.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) rushed its personnel to the spot to bring the situation under control.
HMWSSB officials stated that the pipeline burst close to the Prashasan Nagar pump near Laximinagar Junction. The board also said that due to the leak, there will be short supply of water on Saturday, March 19th, to the areas under the Prashasan Nagar reservoir and the Hydernagar reservoirs, and the Lingampally, Sanath Nagar, Kukatpally and Qutubullapur municipal circles.
Earlier, in October 2010, an old water pipeline, running from Autonagar to Chilkanagar, had burst near Uppal RTA, leading to chaos on the roads as the gushing water had blocked the traffic flow in that area.
