The state Muslim Wakf Board on Thursday said that it will undertake an overhaul of its earlier policies so that the properties under its care become a source of income.
Speaking to mediapersons at the board's office, its Chairman Syed Shah Ghulam Afzal Biyabani, better known as Khusro Pasha, said that the board will cancel a majority of the lease agreements that it had entered, and develop those properties under the 'Build Operate Transfer' mode.
Initially, attention to prime properties in the state will be paid, and work on other properties will be taken up later, Pasha said.
If implemented, this would be a marked departure from its earlier practice where the properties were given on lease. He said that survey works on the prime properties across the state has already begun.
The Chairman further revealed that a decision to turn a 4-acre plot at Kukatpalli into a burial ground for orphans has been taken up. Another patch of this plot has been set aside so that holy manuscripts could be buried there. This, he said, was being done as it was forbidden to burn copies of the Quran and other religious text after they wear out.
The Wakf Board has also given permission for the formation of Masjid committees and Mutawallis of Dargahs in the state.
Pasha also revealed that an attempt to infringe upon the board's property (land), measuring 7 acres and 10 guntas, was foiled with the help of the police at Attapur on Wednesday.
