TPCC minority cell leader Sheikh Abdullah Sohail today resigned from the party, expressing his displeasure over TPCC president Revanth Reddy's "pro-RSS activities".
In a letter to senior Congress leader and All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sohail levelled serious allegations against Reddy.
He said that Reddy had been accused of taking money from the candidates who were given tickets to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.
Sohail also said that the PCC president was trying to wipe out Muslims from the party.
"I have a very good relationship with the Congress for the last 34 years. I joined the party when I was a young man with secular feelings and a commitment to serve the people, and had rendered selfless service to the party. But today, as I write this letter to you, my heart is heavy with so much of pain and sorrow. It is unfortunate that I have been working for the last two-and-a-half years under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, the current TPCC president and a former Sangh Parivar activist. With his arrival as TPCC president in June 2021, the party has changed. The rich and well-to-do are buying any position in the party like a grocery commodity. It was unfortunate that the Congress high command has not realised this," he wrote.
He alleged that the then AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore had sold the TPCC president post to Revanth Reddy by taking a bribe of Rs 50 crore, and that none other than Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had opened his mouth on the issue.
"Now Revanth Reddy is selling Assembly tickets and party posts to recover his investment and make huge profits. It is sad that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have allowed an RSS agent into the party, who has destroyed it in two years," he added.
Referring to instances of tickets being sold in the party, he said, "Party leaders who have been working hard for decades in their constituencies have been thrown into the dustbins and tickets have been given to those who gave huge amounts of cash. There are many examples to prove my allegation. For example, the Malakpet ticket was allotted to a realtor named Sheikh Akbar. It was only after the Congress announced the list of candidates that we heard his name for the first time. He is not even a member of the Congress, and told many publicly that he had bought the ticket for Rs 10 crore. By doing a background check, we have come to know that he has committed real estate-related frauds worth several crores, and has joined the party for political recognition as it is required for protection from the authorities."
He also alleged that a big scam was hatched in the name of surveys by political strategist Sunil Kanugolu to give party tickets. "It is clear that Revanth Reddy has announced tickets for his close friends and for many aspirants who have paid crores of rupees, by promising to include their names in the surveys of Sunil Kanugolu. The entire scam took place at the AICC headquarters," he alleged.
