Unable to cope with the harassment of the police, an auto driver named Santosh in Vishakapatnam committed suicide in front of a police station.
Santosh is reported to have committed suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the police station where he was reportedly being tormented for 4 years now, in full view of the police personnel.
The police initially did not react to Santosh's threats of committing suicide, as he had cried wolf in the past. They were shocked when he actually consumed the pesticide and fell in a heap on the ground.
The police rushed Santosh to a nearby hospital, and the doctors later stated that his condition was critical.
The suicide note found in his shirt-pocket was addressed to his mother, wherein he stated that he was taking the extreme step because he was unable to bear the harassment of the police, who have been summoning him to the police station every so often for 4 years now.
According to reports, Santosh was an innocent by-stander in a theft case that dates back to 4 years - he had unknowingly bought a stolen electronic item. Since then, says the suicide letter, the police have suspected him to be the culprit in various cases and regularly called him for interrogation.
The police did not comment on the charges levied against them by the auto driver.
