The ongoing tussle between the Adivasis and the Lambadas in Telangana took a violent turn on Friday when the two communities clashed at several places in Adilabad district.
Trouble broke out after a statue of Komaram Bheem, a freedom fighter revered by the Adivasis, was found garlanded with footwear at Betalaguda in Narnoor mandal.
Agitated Adivasis then took out a protest rally which turned violent after Lambadas allegedly hurled stones on them at Husnapur.
The irate Adivasis resorted to a counter-attack on the Lambadas, leading to a near war zone situation. The police had to resort to a lathi charge to bring things under control. They also needed to use tear gas shells to disperse people at several places.
Prohibitory orders were quickly clamped banning the assembly of more than five people in the Agency areas.
Meanwhile, the cops denied media reports of two persons losing their lives in the violence.
It may be mentioned here that the Adivasis and the Lambadas have been clashing in the state for the past few days over the reservation issue. The Adivasis want the Lambadas out of the list of Scheduled Tribes.
