Tension prevailed in Adilabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally and Warangal districts of Telangana over the ongoing strife between Adivasis and Lambadas.
In Adilabad district, Adivasis took out a mammoth rally at Neredugonda and organized a rasta roko alleging that some Lambadas attacked them.
Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt for over two hours.
In addition, Adivasi women also stormed the police station expressing protest. Alert police personnel obstructed the women, leading to tension for some time.
The police imposed prohibitory orders in the district.
The Adilabad bandh, too, passed off peacefully on Saturday except minor incidents.
In Jayashankar Bhupalapally district, Adivasis continued their agitation on Saturday, too. In the morning, they caused a traffic jam on the Pasra-Tadvai road by felling trees onto the road. They also obstructed developmental works going on in Medaram.
Tension also prevailed in Warangal city when Lambada youths organised a rally on Saturday alleging that some Adivasis attacked Lambadas in Adilabad district on Friday.
The police entered the scene and obstructed the rally and made arrests. Jostling took place between Lambada youth and the police when the police arrested them. The police shifted Lambada youth to various police stations in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lambada youth alleged that the police had failed to protect the Lambadas.
For those who came in late, Adivasis have been staging dharnas for the last two days demanding that the state government remove Lambadas from the Medaram temple jatara committee.
