Tensions surrounding the appointment of the next TPCC chief have made apparent the cracks within the Telangana unit of the Congress.
The delay in the appointment of current TPCC head N Uttam Kumar Reddy's successor has also caused veteran party leader V Hanumantha Rao to repeatedly lash out at state AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore.
Rao flayed Tagore again today, claiming that the latter was not even responding to his phone calls. He wondered if Tagore was planning to gather the opinion of the party leaders regarding the appointment at all, and asked the leader why he had not yet picked an observer for the process.
Bringing up his doubts about the suitability of rumoured front runner for the post, A Revanth Reddy, VHR told the party's high command that the self-respect of senior leaders and the Congress would be "hurt" if a leader who had only recently joined the party was given the post.
An irate Rao demanded that the high command make a known party loyalist the next TPCC chief instead. He said that he had already written a letter to Congress national president Sonia Gandhi regarding the matter.
Alleging that attempts were being made to oust him from the Congress, the senior leader said that he had not joined politics to wrangle important posts but to work for the cause of social justice.
He had articulated his
displeasure with the current appointment process some days ago as well.
