Popular Telugu film character artist Jayaprakash Reddy passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at his Guntur residence.
He was 74.
He collapsed in his bathroom after experiencing a heart attack.
The family members of the actor rushed him to a hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Reddy had been staying at Guntur after the imposition of the lockdown in the country.
Reddy was born on October 10, 1946, in Kurnool district. He was already a veteran theatre artist before his entry into the movies, and entered the film industry with the film Brahma Putrudu in 1988, when he was 44.
His rise to fame started with Venkatesh's Preminchukundam Raa in 1997, and his career went to the next level with Balakrishna's
Samarasimha Reddy in 1999.
He went on to play numerous memorable roles in movies, and left his mark as a character artist, a comedian and a villain. The list of movies he acted in includes Satruvu, Lorry Driver, Jambalakidi Pamba, Bobbili Raja, Chitram Bhalare Vichitram and Premimchukundam Raa. His dialogues in the Rayalaseema dialect made him quite popular in the entire industry.
Several film personalities expressed their grief at the sudden death of Reddy. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao too condoled the death of the actor.
