Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, on Friday, suspended Nacharam police station inspector M Srinivasa Rao, who is involved in the leakage of call data record of the mobile phone of a social activist, Vasireddy Chandrabala.
The commissioner took this action after the Cyberabad police reportedly completed the investigation into the leakage of call records of Chandrabala's mobile phone.
"An internal inquiry conducted by the Cyber Crime wing of the commissionerate found that Nacharam police station inspector M Srinivasa Rao had acquired the password of Malkajgiri DCP email's ID through the latter's camp clerk," the report stated.
"Since the inspector was working for clues in a murder-for-gain case, he was tracking the mobile phone particulars of several suspects. In good faith, the clerk had given the DCP's email password to the inspector," the investigating officer said.
However, Srinivasa Rao stated that he had no mala-fide intention in obtaining Chandrabala's call data record.
"The journalist in question didn't even meet me, and he had sent me a text message over mobile phone, requesting for the CDR of a mobile phone stating that anonymous persons had made threatening calls from that number," the inspector reportedly told the investigators.
The Cyberabad Crime Station police registered
cases against Sakshi senior correspondent K Yadagiri Reddy, and police inspector M Srinivasa Rao, following a complaint lodged by Vasireddy Chandrabala. Chandrabala had alleged that the programs telecast on Sakshi TV were aimed at damaging her dignity and reputation by making public the confidential information of the call details of her mobile phone.
Cases against Yadagiri Reddy and Srinivasa Rao were booked under the provisions of the IT Act, Section 24 of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, and Section 5 of the Officials Secret Act.
Meanwhile DGP V Dinesh Reddy transferred the case to the Crime Investigation Department. (INN)
