Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that Vanamahotsavam would be celebrated as a State function, and by involving school children, community members and officials.
The State government has proposed to plant 25 crore saplings in the next few years.
The government will identify four to five spots in each district to plant saplings. These places will be identified as Karthikavanam areas.
One day in the month of November will be declared as the State function, and be notified as an optional holiday.
The tree-planting drive is part of the government's plan to transform Andhra Pradesh into a Green State. Currently, the State has a green cover of 23%, and aims to increase it to the national goal of 33%. (INN)
