Telangana Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Boinapalli Vinod Kumar said that students who were preparing for competitive exams had a right to take the exams in their native language according to the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Finding fault with the statements of BJP MPs Bandi Sanjay and Dharmapuri Aravind, who alleged that the Telangana government was allowing candidates to take the State public service commission exams in Urdu for vote bank politics, Kumar condemned the remarks, and said that the BJP leaders should brush up their knowledge on the Constitution.
The TRS leader said that Urdu was one among the 22 languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and that people were allowed to take all Union Public Service Commission exams and all the State Public Service Commission exams in the language.
"Narendra Modi has been allowing all UPSC exams in the native language since he became the Prime Minister in 2014, and has been stressing the importance of the mother tongue of the people on every platform. Unfortunately, his own party's leaders in Telangana are levelling baseless remarks against the Urdu language," he said.
He also said that the choice of writing exams in Urdu was there in united Andhra Pradesh, too.
He alleged that the BJP leaders were unnecessarily levelling baseless remarks against the TRS government, which could also lead to disturbances in the peace and harmony in the State.
