Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Friday, vehemently condemned attacks on statues of leaders at various places, and directed Chief Secretary Dr. P K Mohanty and DGP V Dinesh Reddy to take preventive steps to protect the statues of leaders, to protect public and private property by stepping up security, and to initiate stringent action against anti-social elements indulging in destruction of statues.
The CM reviewed the law-and-order situation with the Chief Secretary and the DGP this morning. He reiterated his appeal to people to show restraint and maintain peace, and to not indulge in violence and destruction of properties.
"In a democracy, people have a right to protest and agitate, but should not indulge in violence and destruction of public and private property," he said.
Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Chief Secretary and the DGP to direct all Superintendents of Police to maintain law & order, and to deal with the people's agitation with restraint, while not allowing violence and destruction.
He said that the government is committed to protecting the lives and property of the people in the state. He added that stringent action will be taken against those who indulge in arson and violence. (INN)
