TRS Warns Against Delay In Telangana Formation
It said that there was no need for holding another all-party meeting on Telangana as it could be used by other parties to stall the new state's formation.
TRS National Secretary General K Keshav Rao on Sunday warned the Centre against slowing down or stalling the process of formation of Telangana state.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan here, Keshav Rao said that the Centre should hasten the process of the bifurcation of the State by introducing the Telangana Bill in the Parliament at the earliest.
He said that there was no need for holding another all-party meeting on the Telangana issue as it could be used by other parties to stall the Telangana formation.
He said that the Congress-led UPA Government should implement the Congress Working Committee's resolution for the formation of Telangana as the 29th State of the country with 10 districts and Hyderabad as its capital, in letter and spirit.
Referring to the suggestions sought by the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana, Rao said that there was no objection to the use of Hyderabad as the joint capital for two states, as long as it was for a limited period.
He said that the residual state of Andhra Pradesh would find no difficulties in operating from Hyderabad as capital for a designated period. However, he said that the Centre should prioritise the formation of a new capital for Andhra Pradesh.
The TRS leader said that all the assets that belonged to the region prior to its merger with the Andhra state in 1956 should be given to the Telangana state. These included Singareni Collieries and AP Bhavan, he sadi.
He also demanded the immediate completion of all railway projects in the region.
Keshava Rao said that a tribunal should be formed to decide the sharing of river waters. Further, both the states should have separate High Courts, he added. (INN)
