Telangana Chief Minister and TRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao today finalised the name of the party’s nominee for the upcoming Huzurabad by-election.
Gellu Srinivas Yadav, a 38-year-old leader from the BC community, was chosen as the TRS candidate for the election.
Yadav, a native of Veena Vanka mandal's Himmat Nagar, in Karim Nagar district, completed his MA and LLB from Osmania University, and has a PhD in political science. He will go head to head against BJP leader and former minister Etala Rajender or
his wife Jamuna in what will likely be a tough electoral battle.
After the announcement, many leaders of the pink party have come forward to voice their support for the candidate.
Speaking to the media about the matter, Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav said, "The people of Huzurabad should support the TRS candidate in the by-election. Our government has their best interests at heart and has been implementing a set of comprehensive welfare schemes for the public's benefit. Voting for Srinivas will mean voting for a leader who will surely continue the TRS' tradition of serving the people. If, on the other hand, the BJP gets the seat, the party's tally of MLAs will increase but there won't be any development in Huzurabad."
"I would urge the voters to support Srinivas as his victory will bring development to the constituency. Voting for the BJP or any other party will be of no use in this regard," he added.
IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao also backed the TRS high command's choice to pick Gellu Srinivas Yadav, and stated that the latter was "a deserving candidate".
Expressing his support for the young leader on Twitter, the minister said, "Srinivas was an active part of the Telangana statehood movement. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has chosen him as he is a deserving candidate. We hope that Srinivas will enter the Assembly with the blessings and the support of the people of Huzurabad."
Though election fever has already gripped the parties in the state, the Election Commission is yet to announce the schedule for the by-election.
The Huzurabad seat fell vacant after Rajender
resigned from the post following his
dismissal from the Cabinet for his alleged
involvement in incidents of land grabbing.
