Telangana Sports and Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud today said that the KCR government would encourage the growth of sports in the state in a big way by providing support to sportspersons.
Goud made this remark while attending a 'Cheer 4 India' program at the Gun For Glory Academy in Gachibowli.
Speaking further on the matter, the minister said, "We are proud to be sending five shooters from the state to this year's Olympics in Japan. Not only is Telangana a major hub for shooting, it is also the home of many great badminton players and training centres. Our government wants to further encourage sports and games in the state."
"We will take additional steps to aid the development of sports and games. In the coming days, we will make concerted efforts to ensure that at least half the sportspersons in India come from our state," he added.
Goud also said that the state had begun to focus on sporting excellence to win medals at the international level.
"To help Telangana's sportspersons gain international recognition, we will provide all the required support, facilities and infrastructure. We will even find coaches to train them," he explained.
The minister then added that the Hakimpet Sports School would soon be equipped with modern facilities.
