Telangana Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud today said that the TRS government would soon be launching a "unique" sports policy in an attempt to develop the state into a sporting hub.
Speaking after launching the brochure for the 43rd national Junior Girls Handball Championship, which will be held from March 31 to April 4 in Hyderabad's Saroonagar Stadium, the minister said, "Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao want to implement a revolutionary sports policy that will boost high-level sporting in the state. They have always been committed to this vision - under the TRS regime, eligible sportspersons can avail themselves of the benefits of reservation. Further, talented sportspersons often receive monetary aid from the government."
"A cabinet sub-committee has been appointed to work on devising a plan to improve sporting infrastructure and to develop sports in accordance with global standards of excellence. Its members will submit a report on a suitable policy to the government soon. Currently, the committee is wrapping up the report. The policy will aim to encourage not only city-based sportspersons but will also try and bolster sportspersons from villages and small towns. We hope that our efforts to introduce a supportive policy will motivate the youth of the state involved in the pursuit of competitive sports to excel at the national and global level in their respective fields. We also hope to develop Telangana into a sporting hub with this new policy framework," he added.
Goud's comments follow Finance Minister T Harish Rao's
Budget speech, made to the Telangana Assembly yesterday, in which the government proposed to allocate Rs 113 crore to the sports sector in the 2021-22 fiscal year.
