Bodhan MLA and Government Whip Aamir Shakeel has condemned the criticism against the TRS government by the Opposition Parties over the lack of Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations.
Speaking to media persons, Shakeel said that the Opposition Parties were trying to politicise the issue by targeting the TRS government.
Referring to the demands made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Congress president Ponnala Lakshmaiah for the official celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day, he asked what prevented the TDP and the Congress from initiating the official celebrations while they were in power.
He said that Naidu had ruled the State for 9 years, and never participated in the Liberation Day celebrations.
Similarly, the Congress never thought of conducting official celebrations during its rule from 2004 to 2014.
Shakeel acused the Bharatiya Janata Party of creating a communal divide on the issue of Hyderabad Liberation Day.
He said that the BJP was trying to politicise the issue in view of the forthcoming elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
"Why did the BJP not hoist the national flag on this occasion last year?" he asked.
The TRS MLA said that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi had a clear stand on the issue. It had organised the celebration of the merger of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union, and Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy himself had participated in the event. (INN)
