BJLP leader Maheshwar Reddy today advised CM Revanth Reddy to observe September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day.
He wrote an open letter to the CM alleging that the State government was not observing September 17 as Liberation Day as it was scared of the MIM and its leaders.
"In the districts which were separated from Telangana and merged with Maharashtra and Karnataka, the Liberation Day celebrations are being held officially. In Telangana, however, the State government is not celebrating September 17 as Liberation Day fearing the MIM," he said.
"Even the BRS did not observe the day as Liberation Day in the past out of fear for the MIM. When the BRS was in government, September 17 was celebrated as Integration Day. Now the Congress government is calling it Public Rule Administration Day. Both the BRS and the Congress are ignoring the sacrifices of Telangana's armed fighters who helped liberate Hyderabad," he said.
Pointing out that the union government was officially observing September 17 as Liberation Day, he said that he was unable to understand why the State government was not doing the same. "A proper recognition of the day by calling it Telangana Liberation Day instead of Public Rule Administration Day will let the State government honour the sacrifices of the martyrs who agitated against the anarchic rule of the Razakars. If it does not do that, the people of Telangana will teach the Revanth Reddy government a lesson," he said.
"Despite the pusillanimity of the State government, however, the sacrifices of our ancestors will not go in waste, thanks to the BJP. This time too the union government and the BJP will celebrate Telangana Liberation Day in a grand manner in the State. I hope that the State government learns from us," he said.
