MLC Kavitha today offered rich floral tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji on his birth anniversary. To mark the occasion, she garlanded a statue of the warrior-king.
The TRS leader also took to Twitter, and praised the king. She wrote, "My humble tributes to the great emperor, administrator and leader Chattarpati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti. We bow down to the great warrior and son of our motherland (sic)."
Some other ministers and TRS leaders also paid their tributes to Shivaji.
At Rajapur, on the Mahbubnagar highway, former Health Minister C Laxma Reddy paid his respects to the famed ruler by offering floral tributes to a photograph of the latter.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy asked the youth of the state to learn from Shivaji's courage, and to serve the people of the country as the ruler had done. He also asked them to be patriotic like the Maratha king.
Former Environment and Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna participated in a program held on the occasion, at Adilabad district's Shivaji Chowk.
He praised Shivaji for being a courageous warrior, and a ruler who was devoted to his people.
Like Reddy, Ramanna too asked the youth to take inspiration from the ruler.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to pay homage to Shivaji. He wrote, "Tributes to the immortal son of "Maa Bharti" Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary (sic)."
Meanwhile, trouble broke out in Hyderabad's Borabanda area this evening when activists of the BJP, the Bajrang Dal and some other outfits gathered to protest the removal of a statue of Shivaji from a bus stop in the area - the GHMC authorities had removed it a week ago.
The agitators demanded that the bust be reinstalled at the earliest. Telangana BJP head Bandi Sanjay Kumar also voiced the same demand.
At the demonstration, Kumar lambasted the state government for not organising any formal state-level celebrations for Shivaji Jayanti.
