The Telangana government today addressed questions regarding employment generation in the state, and said that it would aim to provide 3 lakh jobs in the electronics manufacturing sector over the next four years.
Speaking on the matter during the Question Hour of the ongoing Budget session, IT and Industries minister K T Rama Rao said that over 250 companies in the electronics manufacturing sector were already providing jobs to 1.6 lakh people in the state, and added that this figure was likely to see an increase as the TRS government had decided to prioritise the manufacturing and research and development in the sector in the coming years.
He revealed that the government had even launched a special electronics policy to meet the specific requirements of the industry, and to strengthen it.
"We are committed to generating employment for our people. For this, we are looking to expand our growing electronics manufacturing sector. We have already succeeded in increasing the number of jobs from 50,000 in 2014 to over 1 lakh today. We are focusing on the sector as the state already has two electronics clusters spread across 912 acres outside the ORR area. We are planning to further develop the sector, and have set up a task force to ensure this. Also, in an effort to boost industry and the creation of employment avenues, our government will work towards attracting Rs 75,000 crore worth of investments during the next four years," KTR said.
The promises made by the minister today are significant since the TRS' primary promises in its campaigns for the
recently concluded MLC elections in the graduates' constituencies of Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam and Hyderabad-Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy were centred around employment generation.
