Telangana Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao today said that the State had so far created 23 lakh jobs since its formation, and that in the last year, one out of every three jobs created in the country was in Telangana.
Speaking at a program after taking part in the ground-breaking ceremony of Foxconn Interconnect Technology's electronics manufacturing facility at Kongarakalan in Rangareddy district, Rao said that Telangana had been on a progressive path in all sectors over the last nine years, and that the State's IT sector stood in the second place in India.
He also said that the State government was planning to set up skill development centres to help the youth of the State get jobs, and was committed to creating about 15 lakh jobs in the State in the next 10 years.
Speaking about the Foxconn facility, the minister said that it would serve as the hub for the company's operations in Telangana, and as the anchor for the expansion of its production capacity.
Foxconn would invest over $500M and create 25,000 direct jobs in the first phase, the minister added.
"I am sincerely thankful to the entire Foxconn group for their wonderful decision to set up units in Telangana. I am also delighted to mention that we signed the MoU on March 2, and in just about two and a half months, we are here today at the ground-breaking ceremony. The State government understands why we need to work at a high speed. The Chairman of the Foxconn group, Young Liu, called it 'Telangana Speed'. We will live up to that reputation," KTR said.
The Minister assured Foxconn that the State government would extend all possible support for its operations.
Minister for Education Sabitha Indra Reddy, Foxconn Interconnect Technology Chairman & CEO Sidney Lu, and others were present.
