In view of the heavy rains forecast, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reviewed the flood situation and relief operations in the rain-affected districts this morning.
According to the IMD, 15 districts recorded heavy rainfall, while the remaining districts received normal rainfall. Jagtial district, which had earlier recorded a deficit in this monsoon season, has been receiving heavy rains since last night.
The CM directed officials to deploy NDRF and SDRF teams in advance, and coordinate with the various district Collectors to carry out relief measures in flood-hit habitations.
Reddy instructed authorities to shift families from low-lying areas to relief camps, given the increasing risk of overflow from canals, rivulets and ponds. The irrigation department was tasked with monitoring the water levels in reservoirs, canals and other flood-prone water bodies. Irrigation officials were also asked to alert Collectors and field staff regularly on floodwater releases.
As part of precautionary measures, sandbags will be kept ready to contain flood damage near reservoirs and ponds brimming with heavy inflows. Police and revenue officials were instructed to restrict vehicular movement by placing barricades on roads, low-level bridges and causeways where water levels are rising.
To check the spread of waterborne and vector-borne diseases in rain-affected areas, the Chief Minister ordered municipal, urban and village administration officials to intensify sanitation drives in localities where mosquito breeding had increased due to water stagnation.
Reddy also reviewed the flood situation within the Greater Hyderabad limits and directed the GHMC, HYDRAA, SDRF and fire services to respond immediately to public distress calls.
He also instructed the health department to stockpile adequate medicines and set up medical camps in identified areas.
The Chief Minister called for close coordination among the revenue, electricity, panchayat raj, R&B, health, municipal administration, police, fire services and SDRF departments to effectively tackle the situation during heavy rains.
