TRS Firm On 12% Muslim Reservation: Deputy CM

Deputy CM Mahmood Ali also assured that there would be no harassment of innocent Muslims by the police in Telangana.
Hyderabad | 22nd June 2014
Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali on Sunday claimed that the Telangana Government was firm on its promise of providing 12% reservation to Muslims in the State.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at the Exhibition Grounds, Mahmood Ali said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was in touch with legal experts to initiate the process of giving 12% reservation to Muslims.

He admitted that providing 12% reservation was not an easy task, and that it would have to cross several legal hurdles. However, he said that KCR had already stated his intent in the Legislative Assembly, and that the models of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka would be followed in providing 12% reservation each to Muslims and STs.

The Deputy CM also assured that there would be no harassment of innocent Muslims by the police in Telangana. He said that the Chief Minister had already issued directions to senior police officials that no innocent should be subjected to any kind of harassment.

Further, KCR had also sought a report wherein innocent Muslim youth were harassed and implicated in false cases in the past. He said stern action would be taken against the police officials if they implicate or harass any innocent person in Telangana.

Mahmood Ali said that the State Government was considering giving executive powers to State Wakf Board to ensure protection of Wakf properties. He said steps would be taken to remove the encroachments from Wakf properties, and assured that the encroached properties would be restored soon.

He said that the TRS Government would ensure the educational and economic development of Muslims in Telangana.

He also praised the role played by the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind during Telangana struggle.

JIH Amir of AP & Odisha Khaja Arifuddin Ahmed, Movement for Peace & Justice President Hamed Mohammad Khan, JIH Advisory Council member Mohammad Abdul Raqeeb and others also addressed the meeting. (INN)
