Hyderabad | 15th May 2013
With an aim to eliminate fraudulent activity such as tampering of Electronic Reservation Slips (ERS), overcharging and so on, in case of booking of train tickets through agents, the South Central Railway is launching a public awareness campaign on e-ticketing.
Passengers have been requested to be conversant with certain procedures regarding booking of e-tickets through authorised agents, in order to avoid problems.
The SCR officials have said that passengers need to check the authenticity of an authorized agent outlet before booking their ticket. The details of authorized agent outlets are available on the Indian Railway Catering And Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Website: www.irctc.co.in.
Furthermore, they should verify that the photo-ID and the authorization certificate of the agent are both prominently displayed at the agent outlet.
Passengers should fill up the booking/cancellation request slip for the booking/cancellation of e-tickets. They should also insist that their mobile numbers are fed into the system correctly by the agent.
Passengers will receive an SMS containing details of their booking, including fare and service charges from the IRCTC, immediately as a booking confirmation message. This SMS serves as a valid ticket. Passengers may show it to Travelling Ticket Examinor (TTE) along with their proof of identity during travel. They need not carry a printout of the e-ticket.
After taking a printout of the ticket, the passengers should ensure that the name of the principal agent, name of the agent outlet booking the ticket - along with their address and contact numbers - are printed on the e-tickets. Passengers should obtain a receipt for all booking / cancellation processes.
Passengers must carry any one of the prescribed proof of identities, in original, during their journey - voter identity card / passport / PAN card / Aadhaar Card (UID) / driving license / photo identity card issued by the Central or State Govt. / student identity card with photograph issued by a recognized school/college for their Students / nationalized bank pass book with photograph / credit card with laminated photograph.
Passengers need not pay more than the approved service charges. Service Charges per e-ticket, irrespective of the number of passengers on the ticket:- IRCTC service charge of Rs. 20 and agent service charge of Rs. 20 are payable for A/C First Class, A/C II Tier, A/C III Tier Classes. For reservations in sleeper class and general second class, Rs. 10 has to be paid as IRCTC service charge, and Rs. 10 as agent service charge.
E-tickets can be cancelled through the same agent outlet without any additional service charge for cancellation.
There are no additional charges for the printing of tickets or cancellation of e-tickets. If the agent demands more than the prescribed service charges, passengers are advised to lodge a complaint at agentcomplaint@irctc.co.in or care@irctc.co.in or on the phone nos. - 011-23745962/011-39340000.
The SCR officials went on to say that passengers should not buy e-tickets from agents from 8am to 12pm. The website www.irctc.co.in is open exclusively for individual users from 8am to 12pm.
Passengers found travelling with normal / Tatkal Reserved e-tickets booked by unauthorized persons / touts during the above period, will stand to be penalized and have their ticket cancelled. (INN)
