Now, Meals For Rs 20 In South Central Railway Stations
To begin with, four stations of the SCR have been identified for serving these meals - the Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta and Guntakal railway stations.
To provide affordable meals to the rail passengers, the Indian Railways has introduced "Economy Meals". As part of this, rail passengers, particularly those travelling in general coaches, are being provided with two types of meals at low prices. The price of an economy meal is Rs 20, while a combo meal is priced at Rs 50.
These meals are being served through extended service counters of the kitchen units of the Refreshments Rooms and Jan Aahars of the IRCTC (Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Service) situated at the railway stations.
The service counters are placed on the platform near the general coaches so that large numbers of passengers can avail themselves of the service. The service counters are used by the authorised vendors for stacking, service and sale of the economy meals.
To begin with, four stations of the South Central Railway have been identified for serving these meals - the Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta and Guntakal railway stations. The initiative has already commenced in all the four stations.
