Come monsoon, it is not just heavy rains that the people of the city have to face, but waterlogged roads and traffic jams, too.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have blamed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and the Hyderabad Water Board for not addressing the issue of improper drainage systems in the city.
According to sources, the traffic police scoured 300 sq. kms. of the city and recorded 125 water-logging spots and 500 faulty manholes that demanded immediate action.
Of the 125 potential water-logging spots, 14 areas have been shorlisted as the most troublesome. The shortlisted regions are Lal Bungalow & Mythrivanam in Ameerpet, KCP Junction in Somajiguda, Villa Marie College on Raj Bhavan Road, Model House in Punjagutta, Pension Office at Banjara Hills No. 1/12 Junction, Road No. 12 Banajara Hills in Kaman, Yousufguda Checkpost, Ranigunj & Alugaddabavi in Secunderabad, Karbala Maidan in Lower Tank Bund, Fever Hospital in Kacheguda, Ganabowli in Barkatpura, and Lalazar Railway Bridge in Chaderghat.
Of these 14, the GHMC has reportedly progressed with rectification work only at the KCP Junction.
The city's traffic police complain that there are numerous manholes in Hyderabad that either need to be covered or raised to ground level. The cops expressed fear that accidents involving 2-wheeler motorists will increase at these regions when the monsoon commences.
