In order to relieve congestion and maintain a smooth flow of traffic, and ensure public safety, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner notified vehicular traffic regulations in the city on September 5 in connection with the Ganesh idol immersion processions on some routes.
Police said that the main procession would start from Kesavagiri and pass through the Aliabad - Nagulchinta - Charminar - Madina - Afzalgunj - M J Market - Abids - Basheerbagh - Liberty - upper Tank Bund - NTR Marg route. Various other streams of processions would join the main one at some junctions.
The processions from the Secunderabad area will pass through the R P Road - M G Road - Karbala Maidan - Kavadiguda - Musheerabad crossroads - RTC crossroads - Narayanaguda crossroads - Himayathnagar Y junction - Liberty route.
Another stream will come through the east via the Uppal - Ramanthapur - Amberpet - NCC at OU - Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital route and join the stream at RTC crossroads.
Idols from the western side will join the procession at M J Market and also at the Secretariat near the Telugu Thalli statue.
No traffic other than the processions will be allowed to move on the main procession route between 9 am on September 5 and 8 am on the next day.
Movement of vehicles other than those carrying Ganesh idols will be restricted and diverted at many points along the main procession route and at other points adjoining the main procession routes. The facility to cross from the west to the east and vice versa will be given at the Basheerbagh junction only. Commuters are advised to use the Ring Road and the Begumpet area to avoid diversions. All the side roads leading to the main procession route will be barricaded.
