It may now be mandatory for foreign students in Andhra Pradesh to clear the Test Of English As A Foreign Language (TOEFL) to pursue any courses in the state.
Following complaints from universities that several foreign students find it difficult to complete their courses, the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Council For Higher Education (APSCHE), KC Reddy, has said it has been proposed that students wanting to pursue courses from the universities in Andhra Pradesh will have to pass the TOEFL. The score from the test will be taken into consideration while deciding on admissions.
Expressing that a separate test for foreign students was not required, he said that the proposal will be made before the Chancellor and Governor E S L Narasimhan at the next Vice-Chancellors' Conference.
Apparently, several foreign students whose native language is not English do not have any working knowledge of the language, and hence fail to handle their respective courses.
